چکیده

Myocardial infarction in experimental animals lhas been successfully produced by ligating coronary artery branclhes(l), by injecting obstructing materials into the coronary vessels themselves(2), by external compression(3), and by intravascular electrocoagulation(4). Also, in rats Tlhomas an(l Hartroft were able by dietary means to procluce coronary thrombosis associated witlh myocardial necrosis(5). In this laboratory progressive closure of major coronary arteries in the (log was accomplislhedl many years ago by the intravenous injection of allylamine(6). Altlhouiglh allylamine severely damaged the coronary arteries of the treate(d animals, thrombi andI myocardial infarction were decidedly rare. This observation raised major questioins as to the types and degrees of injury in the walls of coronary arteries that ar-e critical for their thrombotic occlusion. Also questioITs were raise(d as to the pathogenesis of myocardial infarction. That coronary thrombosis andl myocardial infarction do occur in man in association witlh atlherosclerosis is common knowledge, but relatively little is known concerning the precise local condlitions in wlhiclh these important lesions arise. Constantinides(7), andl Friedman and Van Den Bovenkamp(8) lhave found by examiniation of serially sectioned tlhrombosed coronary arteries, tllat in the vast majority a fissure or crack is present in the vessel wall connecting the underlying atlheroma andl the overlying thrombus. Presumably a tlhrombuls may form at or near an actively autolyzing tissue site (atlheroma) in the artery wall. The present experiments had as their objective the creation of an enzymatic counterpart of an autolyzing arterial atlheroma and(I the testing of suclh a lesion in promoting coronary artery tlhrombosis. The plan of the experiments was to introduce potent proteolytic enzymes directly into the pericardial sacs of anestlhetized dogs at thioracotomy andl to stutly at varying intervals tlhereafter the action of tllese sub-

VASODILATOR EFFECTS OF THE β -AGONIST ISOPRENALINE IN AN EXPERIMENTAL MODEL OF HEART FAILURE

Heart failure is a clinical syndrome characterized by the inability of the heart to provide nutrient supply to tissues. In 75% of cases, the underlying pathology causing heart failure in patients with cardiac death is coronary heart disease. A rabbit model of heart failure with coronary ligation was produced to mimic coronary heart disease in humans. After producing the model, two arteries ...

A patient with myocardial infarction and tamponade as a result of spontaneous rupture of an ectatic coronary artery

Introduction: Spontaneous rupture of ectatic vessels is possible in different vascular beds and it can be life-threatening. Rapid diagnosis and initiation of appropriate treatment are essential. Case report: A 63-year-old man presented with chest pain in a state where he was sleepy. Vital signs at the time of admission included a systemic blood pressure of 90/70 mm Hg, heart rate of 100 beats p...

Background : The function of the coronary arteries is to transport oxygenated blood to the heart muscle and if these arteries have been clogged due to fat plaque, patient has to undergo coronary angiography to determine the narrowing rate of coronary arteries and for this purpose, the left femoral artery is used . The aim of this research is to study the effect of pressure bandaging in reducing...

Augmentation of intrapericardial nitric oxide level by a prolonged-release nitric oxide donor reduces luminal narrowing after porcine coronary angioplasty.

BACKGROUND Nitric oxide (NO) is a potent vasodilator and antiplatelet agent that suppresses vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation. Hypothesizing that generating NO in the pericardial space would reduce luminal narrowing after coronary angioplasty without affecting systemic hemodynamics, we have determined the effect of a novel NO donor on vascular healing after balloon overstretch. METHOD...

Congenital Absence of Left Circumflex Coronary Artery

Congenital absence of left circumflex artery is a rare congenital anomaly of the coronary arteries. The prevalence of the anomaly in different studies ranges from 0.6% to 1.3%. Of these, 80% are benign and asymptomatic and 20% are clinically important. We report a 56-year-old man presented with acute resting chest pain who was diagnosed as having acute anterolateral infarction accompanied by el...
